Moderator Annette Insdorf will interview Adrien Brody along with clips from his new film, The Brutalist.
Brody’s searing performance in The Brutalist earned him the “Best Actor” award from the NY Film Critics Circle. As David Rooney wrote in The Hollywood Reporter, “Brody pours himself into the character with bristling intelligence and internal fire, holding nothing back as he viscerally conveys both exultant highs and gutting sorrows.”
When he won the Academy Award for his performance in The Pianist (2002) at age 29, Brody became the youngest actor to earn the prize. His other notable movies include Blonde, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Midnight in Paris (as Salvador Dali), Cadillac Records, The Brothers Bloom, King Kong, Bread and Roses, and for TV, Houdini as well as Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty. In The Brutalist, Brody’s character Laszlo Toth externalizes the emotional turmoil of a once-celebrated Hungarian architect now trying to find his footing in America.
Winner of the Golden Globe for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor, The Brutalist was directed by Brady Corbet. Much like his invented character Laszlo — who designs and builds a monumental structure in Pennsylvania — Corbet’s ambitions are on an impressively grand scale. The film received ten Academy Award nominations, including Best Actor.
