“The deep, dark-maple tone that Christian McBride elicits from an upright bass is one of jazz’s forthright pleasures.” — The New York Times
Five-time GRAMMY®-winning jazz bassist Christian McBride has been one of the most important figures in the jazz world for 20 years. He has worked with Freddie Hubbard, Sonny Rollins, Herbie Hancock and Pat Metheny. He has also collaborated with such artists as the Roots, D’Angelo, Queen Latifah, Sting and Carly Simon. McBride spoke at former President Bill Clinton’s “Racism in the Performing Arts” town-hall meeting, was named co-director of the National Jazz Museum in Harlem and second creative chair for Jazz of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association. In 1998, he composed The Movement, Revisited, a four-movement suite dedicated to Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., which was commissioned by the Portland (ME) Arts Society and the National Endowment for the Arts.
