Dr. Alex Rosen, former dean of New York University's Graduate School of Social Work, leads a seminar about “the nature of American society with an emphasis on ethnicity.” He starts the program with an exercise asking participants to anonymously describe their own identities and prejudices. He uses the responses from the exercise to exemplify how people identify themselves and others as individuals and as members of groups, communities, occupations, nationalities, and ethnicities. Dr. Rosen leads a group reflection on the negative or positive implications of these group identities and their tangible impact on individuals and society at large. The discussion includes participation from the audience.
