Author, lecturer, and philosopher Dr. Eugene Borowitz discusses the connection between Zionism, Israel, and Judaism. This lecture is part of a series exploring the modern Jewish identity. Borowitz argues that there are two primary modes of Jewish identification: religious and nationalist/Zionist. These modes are usually separate and sometimes antagonistic towards each other. Borowitz reflects on attempts to merge these perspectives, the nationalistic emphasis within traditional religion, and the characteristics of Jewish nationalism outside of “land and language.” The lecture is followed with questions from the audience.
