Mary Lefkowitz, Professor of Classical Studies at Wellesley College, discusses women's education in America and the "classical curriculum" (the study of Greek and Latin). Lefkowitz provides an overview of the historical context behind the establishment of women's studies programs in higher education in America, highlighting the purposes such programs serve. After her talk Lefkowitz is in discussion with event moderator Diane Ravitch, Professor at Teachers College, Columbia University. The talk concludes with audience questions. This event is part of the Commemorative Lectures series, held in memory of Mena W. and Harold L. Rosenthal.
