Lynn Gumpert, Director of the Grey Art Gallery at New York University, moderates a conversation with artist and architect Maya Lin. Lin gained notoriety after winning the design competition for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial while she was still an undergraduate at Yale University. At the time of this recording, Lin’s book Boundaries (2000) was recently published by Simon & Schuster. Lin shares slides of her architectural and sculptural projects. She discusses the influence of time and natural landscapes on her work, especially her commemorative projects like the Vietnam Memorial and the Civil Rights Memorial in Montgomery, Alabama. Lin also reflects on the influence of her family and her desire to document her work and her artistic processes. The discussion is followed with questions from the audience.
