David Sidorsky, professor of philosophy at Columbia University, speaks about history as a value in which people find “ultimate significance.” This is the first part of a five-part lecture series exploring the philosophy of history, religion, art, and science as human values. Sidorsky critically explains different ways in which history becomes meaningful. He references biblical stories to reflect on how theologically, history can represent both punishment and redemption. Sidorsky ultimately questions if the significance of history is one of “righteousness or power.” The lecture is followed with questions from the audience.
