Michael Shnayerson and Arne Glimcher on the Business of Contemporary Art

Sep 09, 2019

How does one spot the next Jeff Koons “Rabbit”? Is there such a thing as a contemporary masterpiece—or are the sky-high prices we’re seeing in auction houses a result of marketing? Are we approaching the first billion-dollar painting?

Michael Shnayerson, Vanity Fair contributing editor and author of the new book BOOM: Mad Money, Mega Dealers and the Rise of Contemporary Art, is joined by mega-dealer Arne Glimcher to explore how the art market has exploded in recent years. Drawing from stories in his book, they’ll share insights about Glimcher and his fellow mega-dealers—Larry Gagosian, David Zwirner, Iwan Wirth and more—as well as the artists who have risen to these vertigo-inducing heights. Join them for an illuminating and entertaining talk on the business of art.
