Reel Pieces™ with Annette Insdorf: Clive Owen on Words and Pictures

May 21, 2014

Moderator Annette Insdorf interviews actor Clive Owen after a preview of his latest film, Words and Pictures (directed by Fred Schepisi, 2014, 111 minutes).

Clive Owen is best known for his performances in Alfonso Cuaron's Children of Men (2006), Mike Nichols' Closer (Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor, 2004), Philip Kaufman's Hemingway & Gellhorn (2012) and his breakout role in Croupier (1998). Originally a stage actor in his native England, he also starred in such films as Bent (1997), Inside Man (2006), The International (2009), Shadow Dancer (2012) and the recent Blood Ties.

Words and Pictures is a romantic (and often comic) drama with strong performances by Owen as a passionate English teacher, and Juliette Binoche (The English Patient, Blue, Chocolat, The Unbearable Lightness of Being) as a tough art teacher and painter. They mount a school battle over whether words or pictures are the more expressive and authentic medium.
