Award-winning producer and writer Richie Jackson and Queer Eye star Antoni Porowski discuss Jackson’s new book, Gay Like Me: A Father Writes to His Son, introduced by Jordan Roth.
The book explores gay identity, parenting a gay son and the progress and setbacks of the LGBTQ community over the last 50 years.
In this poignant and timely conversation, Jackson reflects on his life as a gay man and compare it to the world his 18-year-old gay son is growing up in now. Because—despite the progress made since Stonewall, the increased visibility of LGBTQ people in society, the legal right to marry, a drug to prevent HIV—bigotry is on the rise. Being gay is a gift, Jackson says, but with its gains in jeopardy, the gay community must not be complacent.
Gay Like Me is an eye-opening indictment to straight-lash in America. This intimate conversation explores our uncertain times and most profound concerns about issues as fundamental as dignity, equality, and justice. Jackson’s book is a cultural manifesto that will stand the test of time and holds lasting insight for us all.
