Robert Kingsley Professor of Law at UCLA Susan Estrich speaks about the status of women in the political and legal world. This lecture is part of the 2001 Ruth and Oliver Stanton About Women lecture series. Estrich comments on unconscious discrimination against women, the reluctance of women to take action or stand up for themselves, and the lack of accommodation for mothers in law and politics. She argues that making impactful change requires action on behalf of ourselves and others, concluding “the power is at our fingertips–it requires some guts and we can't always do it for ourselves, but if we can do it for each other, we can make this world a much better place for ourselves and our sons and daughters.” The lecture is followed with questions from the audience.
