Psychologist and researcher Dr. Robert Ornstein gives a lecture about the shaping of the human mind and consciousness. This lecture is based on his 1995 book, The Axemaker’s Gift, which he co-authored with James Burke. Dr. Ornstein gives the historical background of the human mind, stating that he believes that the human mind is not naturally organized for self-reflection. He believes that the development of human culture, tools, and civilization had a large role in limiting, organizing, and directing our thought processes. The lecture is followed by questions from the audience.
