Author Meyer Levin continues his series, “Who and What is a Jewish Novelist?” with a lecture examining the critical and assimilationist tendencies of American Jewish novelists, and the influence of politics and personal experience on an author’s work. Levin evaluates the writings of several renowned American Jewish authors with his “love or hate” test, which seeks to determine whether the critical nature of a work comes from a place of cultural tradition and love or from a place of self-hatred and negativity. After his lecture concludes, Levin answers audience questions.
